R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Jerry Birdsong retired as superintendent of |
|
|
Stratford Independent School District in 2017, drawing to a close |
|
|
an exemplary career in education that has spanned more than three |
|
|
decades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Levelland High School, Jerry Birdsong |
|
|
earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and history and his |
|
|
master's degree in educational administration at West Texas A&M |
|
|
University; he holds a superintendent's certification; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Birdsong began his career in 1984 at Friona High |
|
|
School, where he served as a teacher and coach, and he went on to |
|
|
teach and coach for districts in Fort Worth, Georgetown, Beeville, |
|
|
and Junction; from 1994 to 1998, he was the principal of Bovina High |
|
|
School, and for the following six years, he served at Denver City |
|
|
High School as principal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2004, Mr. Birdsong was appointed superintendent |
|
|
of Silverton ISD, and he has led Stratford ISD as superintendent |
|
|
since 2008; a leader in his profession, he has been a member of the |
|
|
Texas Association of School Administrators Small School Major |
|
|
Committee, the Texas Education Agency's Commissioner's Cabinet, and |
|
|
the Regional UIL Music Executive Committee, and he served TASA as |
|
|
Region 16 chair from 2011 to 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, |
|
|
Mr. Birdsong has contributed to civic life as a member of the Lions |
|
|
Clubs in Stratford, Silverton, and Denver City and the Bovina |
|
|
Chamber of Commerce; he is also a valued congregant of Stratford |
|
|
First United Methodist Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Birdsong has enjoyed the |
|
|
love and support of his wife, Stephanie, and his daughters, Kasi, |
|
|
Kelsi, and Kammi; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Jerry Birdsong's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
|
commitment to excellence have greatly benefited countless young |
|
|
Texans, and he may reflect with pride on a career well spent as he |
|
|
embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jerry Birdsong on his retirement |
|
|
from Stratford ISD and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Birdsong as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
