R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Ivan Saldaña of IDEA Frontier College Prep is being |
|
|
awarded a 2017 Dell Scholarship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An initiative of the Michael and Susan Dell |
|
|
Foundation, the Dell Scholars Program awards scholarships annually |
|
|
to up to 400 low-income students, most of whom represent the first |
|
|
generation in their families to attend college, and many of whom |
|
|
have already overcome various personal challenges in their lives; |
|
|
in addition to an annual $20,000 award that is renewable for six |
|
|
years, the program provides a laptop, tutoring, mentoring, and |
|
|
other resources; more than 80 percent of Dell Scholars graduate |
|
|
within six years, four times the national rate for low-income |
|
|
students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient, Ivan Saldaña has |
|
|
demonstrated impressive drive and ability as he works toward his |
|
|
scholastic and personal goals, and he may indeed look forward to a |
|
|
future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Ivan Saldaña on his receipt of a |
|
|
2017 Dell Scholarship and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Saldaña as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
