H.R. No. 1226

R E S O L U T I O N

         WHEREAS, The Martins Mill High School girls' basketball team
  enjoyed an outstanding 2016-2017 season, advancing all the way to
  the University Interscholastic League 2A state championship game on
  March 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, The Lady Mustangs compiled a stellar overall season
  record of 37 wins and just 3 defeats and put together a thrilling
  29-game winning streak; after claiming the District 14-2A title,
  the Martins Mill players went on to record commanding playoff
  victories over Blue Ridge, Rivercrest, Honey Grove, and Windthorst
  High Schools, and their triumph over Era High on February 25 secured
  the regional crown and earned the team a trip to the state
  tournament for the 12th time in school history; and
         WHEREAS, Martins Mill faced off against 2016 state champion
  Weimar High School in the state semifinals; in a hard-fought
  showdown, the Lady Mustangs overcame a 10-point fourth quarter
  deficit with clutch shooting and a stout defense that allowed
  Weimar only one point over a nearly six-minute stretch to close out
  the contest; the 58-50 victory returned Martins Mill to the state
  finals for the second time in three years; in that game, the Lady
  Mustangs put up a determined effort but ultimately fell to
  Panhandle High School to bring their memorable season to a close;
  and
         WHEREAS, The dedicated members of the Martins Mill High
  School girls' basketball team proved themselves one of the top 2A
  squads in Texas during the 2016-2017 campaign, and they may indeed
  reflect with pride on their notable accomplishments; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Martins Mill High School girls'
  basketball team on its successful season and extend to the team's
  players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Lady Mustangs as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
