R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Locally owned businesses make a welcome |
|
contribution to the distinct character of their communities, and |
|
Edible Art Specialty Cakes and Cookies of Longview is celebrating |
|
its 10th anniversary on May 1, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Edible Art's founder, Debbie Fontaine, earned a |
|
bachelor's degree in business administration and worked in the |
|
corporate world for 17 years before launching her own bakery |
|
business by making custom cakes and cookies out of her home; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Fontaine's enterprise took off when she made |
|
more than 600 swan cookies for the Longview Ballet's production of |
|
Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake; as orders began flooding in, family and |
|
friends helped her with the baking, and Ms. Fontaine began looking |
|
for a roomier location than her home kitchen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since May 2007, Edible Art has operated out of the |
|
former "It'll Do" Tavern on South Street in Longview, and it has |
|
become popular for its distinctive creations and for its policy of |
|
giving a free Texas-shaped cookie to anyone who comes through the |
|
door; the business also regularly delivers cakes and cookies to the |
|
nearby headquarters of the Longview Police Department as a gesture |
|
of support; Edible Art is becoming better known outside of Longview |
|
as well, and in February 2017, the shop was ranked sixth in a list of |
|
the top 10 bakeries in Texas by the website bestthingstx.com; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 10 years, Edible Art Specialty Cakes and Cookies |
|
has been a valued member of the Longview business community, and it |
|
is truly deserving of recognition on this special occasion; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Edible Art Specialty Cakes and |
|
Cookies on its 10th anniversary and extend to Ms. Fontaine and her |
|
staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the business as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
