R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Kim Ogg was sworn in as Harris County district |
|
attorney on New Year's Day, 2017, and this occasion provides a |
|
welcome opportunity to celebrate her many outstanding achievements |
|
over the course of an already distinguished career; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Ogg earned a bachelor's |
|
degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 1981 |
|
and a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1986; early in |
|
her career, she served as a chief felony prosecutor in the Harris |
|
County District Attorney's Office, and in 1994, she became the |
|
first director of the Mayor's Anti-Gang Task Force, where she |
|
played a vital role in reducing gang violence in Houston by 40 |
|
percent; from 1999 until 2006, Ms. Ogg served as executive director |
|
of Crime Stoppers of Houston, a leading anonymous crime-tip hotline |
|
and reward program; she went on to work in private practice, first |
|
with McFall, Breitbeil & Shults and then with the Ogg Law Firm; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has garnered a number of |
|
prestigious accolades over the years, including a national award |
|
from the Foundation for Improvement of Justice, a commendation from |
|
the Houston Police Department, the Steve Chaney Distinguished |
|
Service Award from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Crime |
|
Victim Clearinghouse, the Allied Professional Award from the |
|
Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime, and the Public |
|
Service Award from the South Texas College of Law; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Ogg has enjoyed the love |
|
and support of her partner of 32 years, Olivia Jordan, and their |
|
son, Jack; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, skill, and commitment |
|
to justice, Kim Ogg has greatly benefited the people of Harris |
|
County, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad |
|
accomplishments as she takes on the challenges and opportunities of |
|
her new position; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Kim Ogg on her election as Harris |
|
County district attorney and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Ogg as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
