SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 820
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Roberto Pulido on the occasion of the Edinburg
  Independent School District's fine arts auditorium at Robert
  Vela High School being named in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, Roberto Pulido has been at the forefront of music
  in South Texas for many years; a native of Edinburg, he taught
  music in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District
  before leaving the field of education to form a group known as Los
  Clasicos; and
         WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Los Clasicos developed a
  musical style that embodies a unique fusion of the traditional
  Tejano orchestral brass sound and the accordion-based sound of
  conjunto, polkas, and cumbias; the new style became immensely
  popular, and the band's single, Copa Tras Copa, achieved
  tremendous popularity; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pulido has produced more than 40 albums over
  the course of his illustrious career, and he continues to draw
  enthusiastic crowds wherever he performs; known affectionately
  to his fans as "El Primo," he has also produced and starred in
  numerous music and television programs; and
         WHEREAS, He has made a difference in the lives of many
  aspiring young musicians by establishing the Roberto Pulido
  Music Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Texas--Pan
  American and The University of Texas at Brownsville; it is truly
  fitting that the fine arts auditorium at Robert Vela High School
  be named in his honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby commend Roberto Pulido on his many
  contributions to the music industry and the culture of South
  Texas and extend to him congratulations on the renaming of the
  fine arts auditorium at Robert Vela High School in his honor;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
