SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 804
         WHEREAS, The students of Chavez High School in Houston have
  earned the exceptional distinction of winning the 2014-2015
  Vocabulary Bowl; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by Vocabulary.com, the inaugural
  Vocabulary Bowl began on September 1, 2014, and ran through April
  30, 2015; more than 170,000 students from over 13,000 schools
  across the United States and Canada competed to see which school
  could master the most words; and
         WHEREAS, With an enrollment of more than 3,000 in grades 9
  through 12, Chavez High School, in the Houston Independent School
  District, is home to many students who speak English as a second
  language; by taking on the challenge of the Vocabulary Bowl,
  these fine young Texans greatly expanded their lexicon, and their
  determination led them to dominate the contest from November
  onward, as they captured monthly championships at the state and
  North American levels; Chavez students earned first place
  overall by mastering an impressive 303,387 words, besting the
  runner-up by more than 90,000; for their efforts, the school will
  receive a championship trophy, and the top students will be
  honored with medals at a special ceremony; and
         WHEREAS, Through their participation in the Vocabulary
  Bowl, Chavez High School students have shown great initiative and
  ability, and they may indeed look forward to a future bright with
  promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby congratulate the students of Chavez High
  School on winning the 2014-2015 Vocabulary Bowl and extend to
  them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the students as an expression of high regard from
  the Texas Senate.
