SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 630
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Abel Alaniz
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Abel Alaniz, who died November 13, 2014,
  at the age of 56; and
         WHEREAS, Abel Alaniz was born on February 27, 1958, in
  Monahans, to Gloria and Jose Alaniz; he graduated in the top 10
  percent of his 1976 class at Rio Hondo High School, where he was a
  participant in numerous extracurricular activities; and
         WHEREAS, He received a full scholarship from the Houston
  Livestock Show and Rodeo and attended Sam Houston State
  University, where he earned a degree in criminal justice; and
         WHEREAS, After his graduation, Mr. Alaniz began a long and
  productive career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice;
  he first served as a correctional officer but quickly joined the
  Parole Division as an institutional parole officer; he was named
  Parole Officer of the Year for Region III before going on to serve
  as a hearing officer and as a regional operations supervisor; in
  2005, he became director of administration in Austin, and he
  retired in 2008; and
         WHEREAS, He married his high school sweetheart, Amanda
  Jaramillo Alaniz, and the couple enjoyed more than three decades
  of marriage; they raised three children together and were blessed
  with eight grandsons; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave
  generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
  will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his
  life; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
  and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Abel Alaniz; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Abel Alaniz.
