R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Tom Mechler of Amarillo concluded a distinguished
  tenure on the Texas Board of Criminal Justice in August 2014; and
         WHEREAS, Appointed in 2005, Mr. Mechler worked with
  tremendous dedication for almost nine years as a member of the
  board, which administers an annual budget of $3.3 billion and
  oversees the incarceration of convicted felons and the monitoring
  of parolees, and which provides the funding for county probation
  departments; he served as secretary of the board from May 2008 to
  June 2009 and as vice chair from June 2009 onward, as well as a
  trustee of the Windham School District, the state's prison
  educational system; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Mechler
  holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania as well; he served
  as a volunteer chaplain in the prison ministry before joining the
  Board of Criminal Justice, and his servant's heart has led him to
  participate actively in church ministry and a variety of civic
  activities with his wife, Becky; the couple also enjoys spending
  time with their treasured children and grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Tom Mechler has set an inspiring example of civic
  engagement, and he indeed merits special recognition for his
  outstanding contributions to the criminal justice system in the
  Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Tom Mechler for his exceptional service
  to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for the future.
