R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Tom Mechler of Amarillo concluded a distinguished |
|
tenure on the Texas Board of Criminal Justice in August 2014; and |
|
WHEREAS, Appointed in 2005, Mr. Mechler worked with |
|
tremendous dedication for almost nine years as a member of the |
|
board, which administers an annual budget of $3.3 billion and |
|
oversees the incarceration of convicted felons and the monitoring |
|
of parolees, and which provides the funding for county probation |
|
departments; he served as secretary of the board from May 2008 to |
|
June 2009 and as vice chair from June 2009 onward, as well as a |
|
trustee of the Windham School District, the state's prison |
|
educational system; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Mechler |
|
holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania as well; he served |
|
as a volunteer chaplain in the prison ministry before joining the |
|
Board of Criminal Justice, and his servant's heart has led him to |
|
participate actively in church ministry and a variety of civic |
|
activities with his wife, Becky; the couple also enjoys spending |
|
time with their treasured children and grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Tom Mechler has set an inspiring example of civic |
|
engagement, and he indeed merits special recognition for his |
|
outstanding contributions to the criminal justice system in the |
|
Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Tom Mechler for his exceptional service |
|
to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice and extend to him sincere |
|
best wishes for the future. |
