R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
  the death of Daniel David Groover of the Houston Fire Department,
  who lost his life in the line of duty on July 9, 2014, at the age of
  46; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel Groover was born on December 15, 1967, to
  Gary and Joyce Groover; after graduating from Sam Houston High
  School in Pearland in 1986, he answered his nation's call to duty
  and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as an emergency room medic in
  Germany and later during Operation Desert Storm; and
         WHEREAS, The son of a veteran Houston firefighter,
  Mr. Groover was eager to follow in his father's footsteps, and he
  joined the Houston Fire Department as a firefighter in February
  1993; he subsequently worked as a firefighter/paramedic for 17
  years until 2013, when he returned to firefighting at Station
  No. 104, where he was affectionately known as "Doc"; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Groover loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed
  saltwater fishing from a kayak or off a pier at Galveston Bay; he
  was a skilled cook who shared his fried chicken and baby back ribs
  with his friends, who also delighted in his dry, country wit and his
  surprising talent at crochet; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel Groover was a devoted family man and a
  dedicated first responder, and although his life ended far too
  soon, he leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can
  remember with pride; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Daniel David
  Groover and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
  family: to his wife, Ellie Groover; to his children, Cory Groover
  and his wife, Robin, Marcus Rodriguez, and Thomas Vella; to his
  parents, Gary and Joyce Groover; and to his other relatives and many
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representative adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Daniel
  Groover.
