Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Higher Education was held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:07 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

Senator Rodriguez was present at the hearing.

Senator Seliger moved to operate under the committee rules adopted during the 83^rd Regular Legislative Session. There being no objection, it was so ordered.

Senator Seliger made opening remarks regarding interim charge one: Review and evaluate the success of Closing the Gaps by 2015, the strategic plan for higher education adopted in 2000. Coordinate with Higher Education Coordinating Board on the next set of long term goals for higher education and monitor their progress.

Senator Seliger called invited testimony (see attached witness list).

Public witnesses testifying on interim charge one are shown on the attached list.

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

There being no further business, at 11:37 AM Senator Seliger moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
