SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 162
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
	tribute to the senior citizens of our state and to recognize
	February 12, 2013, as Senior Day at the Capitol; and
	WHEREAS, Senior Day provides an opportunity for senior
	citizens to gather and discuss mutual interests and to consult
	with elected officials regarding issues of significance in
	today's society; and
	WHEREAS, There are approximately three million Texans who
	are over the age of 60, and by the year 2020, it is estimated that
	more than five million Texans will be senior citizens; and
	WHEREAS, Senior citizens serve as role models for young
	people, and their wisdom, experience, and productive careers are
	invaluable to the welfare of our state; seniors also reflect the
	state's diverse ethnic, spiritual, and cultural roots and have a
	history of volunteering in their communities and working hard to
	maintain the prosperity of the state; and
	WHEREAS, The senior citizens of Texas exemplify the spirit
	of responsibility and dedication to the common good that would
	make our forefathers proud, and they deserve recognition for
	their lifetime of hard work, their community service, and their
	countless contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore,
	be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
	Legislature, hereby commend the senior citizens of Texas for the
	invaluable role they play in our state and extend to them best
	wishes for an enjoyable Senior Day at the Capitol; and, be it
	further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	the senior citizens of Texas as an expression of esteem from the
	Texas Senate.
