R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Six musicians from Midway High School received |
|
|
special honors in the 2013 Texas Music Educators Association |
|
|
All-State competition, and this fine showing indeed merits |
|
|
recognition and commendation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The TMEA All-State designation is the highest |
|
|
achievement that a Texas secondary school music student can earn; |
|
|
more than 60,000 young people from around the state compete |
|
|
annually to perform in one of 13 All-State bands, orchestras, and |
|
|
choirs; musicians are ranked by a panel of TMEA judges based on |
|
|
their regional auditions, and a select group advances to perform in |
|
|
one of seven area competitions; only the most accomplished |
|
|
performers from the area contests qualify for one of the All-State |
|
|
music ensembles; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating great skill and dedication, Hannah |
|
|
Burnett was selected to represent Midway in the All-State Orchestra |
|
|
for her performance on viola, while Elaine Sury, an alto 2, and |
|
|
Natalie Guess, a soprano 1, were both named to the All-State Women's |
|
|
Choir; in addition, Kasie Meek, an alto 2, Katherine Burns, a |
|
|
soprano 2, and Abby Bennett, an alto 1, were chosen as choir |
|
|
alternates; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These talented young musicians are a source of pride |
|
|
to their families, teachers, and fellow students, and they may |
|
|
indeed look to the future with anticipation toward the many |
|
|
exciting opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Abby Bennett, Hannah Burnett, |
|
|
Katherine Burns, Natalie Guess, Kasie Meek, and Elaine Sury on |
|
|
their success in the 2013 Texas Music Educators Association |
|
|
All-State competition and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
|
the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
