Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Public Education Funding was held on Thursday, April 7, 2011, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:05 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

Other Senators attending: Senator Van de Putte.

Senator Shapiro made opening remarks to the committee.

Senator Shapiro called the following invited witnesses to provide testimony. See attached list.

At 8:12 AM Senator West moved that the Online College and Career Pilot Rider be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

The Dropout Prevention and Intervention Programs Rider was not adopted.

The Riders for Pre-K Textbooks and Materials for Proclamation 2011 was not adopted.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Texas and the Amachi Texas Program Rider was not adopted.

Language was inserted into two riders that the programs the Commissioner funded had proven results.

The Public School Counselor Report Rider was adopted as amended.

There being no further business, at 8:41 AM Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
