The House Committee on Higher Education
October 5, 2012
Pursuant to a notice posted on September 24, 2012, the House Committee on Higher Education met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Branch, at 9:15 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Branch; Howard, Donna; Lewis; Patrick, Diane; and Raney.
A quorum was present.
The Chair laid out the following interim study charge:
Review the various research funding programs available to institutions of higher education. Analyze the effectiveness of each program and recommend whether state funding should be continued. Consider whether the investments made in these programs are attracting research projects to Texas and whether more emphasis should be placed on policies that attract outside research funding to Texas. Consider whether maintaining multiple programs dilutes the state's efforts to attract groundbreaking research to Texas.
Testimony taken/registration recorded. (See attached witness list.)
At 3:20 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
Rep. Branch, Chair
