Pursuant to a notice posted on February 24, 2012, the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Gallego, at 9:50 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Gallego; Aliseda; Burkett; Carter; Christian; Rodriguez, Eddie; and Zedler.

 

A quorum was present.


 

The Committee met to hear invited testimony regarding interim charge number four:

“Review the current sentencing practices for defendants with mental illnesses and make recommendations. Study practices in other states. Compare recent incarceration trends between those who have mental illnesses and those who do not.”

The committee also met to hear follow up testimony on HB 215 (82R)
