R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Officer Patrick Sirois was posthumously recognized
  by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and
  Education with its 2010 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement
  Award for Valor; and
         WHEREAS, On November 23, 2010, Officer Sirois was traveling
  to Oklahoma for the Thanksgiving holiday; although he was off duty,
  he stopped his vehicle to help a stranded motorist near Eufaula;
  while he and the driver spoke on the shoulder of the highway,
  Officer Sirois saw another car speeding directly toward them;
  without hesitation, he pushed the stranded driver out of harm's way
  but was fatally injured himself; he was 50 years old at the time of
  his death; and
         WHEREAS, Before becoming a police officer, Pat Sirois served
  this nation for 23 years as a member of the United States Army and
  earned many commendations for his outstanding efforts, including
  the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit; he retired from his career
  in the military in 2002 as a command sergeant major and joined the
  Fort Hood Police Department; he was also a reserve officer in the
  Nolanville Police Department, where he was named Officer of the
  Year in 2009; and
         WHEREAS, In the final moments of his life, Officer Sirois
  demonstrated the courage, decisiveness, and self-sacrifice that
  defined his career, and it is indeed fitting that his heroism be
  recognized with this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Officer Patrick
  Sirois in recognition of his receipt of the 2010 State of Texas Law
  Enforcement Achievement Award for Valor and extend sincere
  condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Karen
  Howe-Sirois; to his children, Patrick Sirois, Jr., and Debra
  Lipham; to his mother, Claire Jalbert, and her husband, Arthur; to
  his sisters, Carol Levesque and Gloria Beaudoin; to his brother,
  Phillip Sirois; to his nephews, Shaun, Kenneth, Randy, and Michael;
  and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Officer
  Patrick Sirois.
