R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer Patrick Sirois was posthumously recognized |
|
by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and |
|
Education with its 2010 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement |
|
Award for Valor; and |
|
WHEREAS, On November 23, 2010, Officer Sirois was traveling |
|
to Oklahoma for the Thanksgiving holiday; although he was off duty, |
|
he stopped his vehicle to help a stranded motorist near Eufaula; |
|
while he and the driver spoke on the shoulder of the highway, |
|
Officer Sirois saw another car speeding directly toward them; |
|
without hesitation, he pushed the stranded driver out of harm's way |
|
but was fatally injured himself; he was 50 years old at the time of |
|
his death; and |
|
WHEREAS, Before becoming a police officer, Pat Sirois served |
|
this nation for 23 years as a member of the United States Army and |
|
earned many commendations for his outstanding efforts, including |
|
the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit; he retired from his career |
|
in the military in 2002 as a command sergeant major and joined the |
|
Fort Hood Police Department; he was also a reserve officer in the |
|
Nolanville Police Department, where he was named Officer of the |
|
Year in 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, In the final moments of his life, Officer Sirois |
|
demonstrated the courage, decisiveness, and self-sacrifice that |
|
defined his career, and it is indeed fitting that his heroism be |
|
recognized with this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Officer Patrick |
|
Sirois in recognition of his receipt of the 2010 State of Texas Law |
|
Enforcement Achievement Award for Valor and extend sincere |
|
condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Karen |
|
Howe-Sirois; to his children, Patrick Sirois, Jr., and Debra |
|
Lipham; to his mother, Claire Jalbert, and her husband, Arthur; to |
|
his sisters, Carol Levesque and Gloria Beaudoin; to his brother, |
|
Phillip Sirois; to his nephews, Shaun, Kenneth, Randy, and Michael; |
|
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Officer |
|
Patrick Sirois. |
