R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |
|
of Maria Hermelinda Saenz Perez of Laredo, who passed away on March |
|
30, 2011, at the age of 90; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to Rafael and Maria Saenz on February 11, 1921, |
|
Mrs. Perez grew up during the Great Depression, an experience that |
|
forged her strong moral compass and generous spirit; to help her |
|
family weather those difficult years, she left school at an early |
|
age and pitched in to assist with raising her siblings and to work |
|
with her father on his dairy farm; every morning she would rise |
|
early to help him on his milk delivery, after which they would |
|
divide the remaining milk and distribute it to the poor in their |
|
neighborhood; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Perez and the love of her life, Arnulfo Perez, |
|
Jr., enjoyed a rewarding marriage of nearly 60 years, until his |
|
passing; deeply devoted to her family, she was blessed with 6 |
|
children, Frances, Yolanda, Arnulfo Rafael, Juanita, Norma, and |
|
Arnulfo Perez III, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 |
|
great-grandchildren; she put her loved ones before all else and |
|
helped them in myriad ways, often going without small luxuries in |
|
order to better provide for them; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Mrs. Perez was guided by her |
|
abiding Catholic faith; she stressed to her family the importance |
|
of obtaining an education, and she set an example for others by |
|
returning to school when she was in her fifties to complete her own |
|
studies; an avid reader, she also had a great passion for politics |
|
and current events; and |
|
WHEREAS, A beloved mother, grandmother, and |
|
great-grandmother, Maria Hermelinda Saenz Perez lived a caring and |
|
purposeful life centered around her faith and her family, and those |
|
who were privileged to share in her love and affection will forever |
|
hold her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Maria Hermelinda |
|
Saenz Perez and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |
|
family: to her children, Frances Medina and her husband, Juan, |
|
Yolanda Villafranca and her husband, Ramon, Arnulfo Rafael Perez |
|
and his wife, Maria Eugenia, Juanita Wilson and her husband, Cliff, |
|
and Norma Martinez and her husband, Roberto Martinez, Jr.; to her |
|
grandchildren, John Medina, Jessica Bowman, Jennifer Chandler, |
|
Raquel Schwartz, Ramon Villafranca, Victor Villafranca, Mario |
|
Villafranca, Monica Zubeldia, Rolando Perez, Norma Martinez, and |
|
Mirella Martinez; to her great-grandchildren; to her brothers and |
|
sister-in-law, Rafael and Angelica Saenz and Pedro Saenz; to her |
|
sisters and brother-in-law, Irma Morales, Nestora Martinez, and |
|
Maria and Romero Rodriquez; and to her other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maria |
|
Hermelinda Saenz Perez. |
