R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The city of Stafford has greatly benefited from the |
|
dedicated leadership of the Honorable Leonard Scarcella, who has |
|
ably served his fellow citizens as mayor for the past 42 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, First elected in 1969, Mayor Scarcella has guided |
|
the city through such challenges as the creation and implementation |
|
of the Stafford Municipal School District, the only municipal |
|
school district in the state; other achievements during his tenure |
|
include the elimination of the city property tax, the planning and |
|
development of the Stafford Centre, and the construction of a |
|
state-of-the-art science and technology center for Houston |
|
Community College on the Stafford Campus; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mayor Scarcella has also played a key role in |
|
fostering business development, and Stafford today boasts one of |
|
the strongest and most diverse economies in the state; with an eye |
|
to the future, he continues to promote the strengthening of zoning |
|
and building standards, the development of a commuter rail |
|
partnership with neighboring cities, and other forward-looking |
|
initiatives; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over more than four decades, Mayor Scarcella has led |
|
Stafford with vision, skill, and a steadfast commitment to |
|
excellence, and he may take justifiable pride in his exemplary |
|
record of achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Leonard Scarcella for his exceptional |
|
service as mayor of Stafford and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mayor Scarcella as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
