R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, St. David's HealthCare, the Texas Hospital
  Association, and the Texas Nurses Association are paying tribute to
  nurses throughout the state during National Nurses Week, from May 6
  through 12, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, The American Nurses Association has proclaimed the
  week in honor of Florence Nightingale, the 19th-century
  Englishwoman who founded the modern profession of nursing; and
         WHEREAS, Both an art and a science, nursing balances
  compassion and respect for human dignity with skilled clinical
  practice and critical thinking; nurses share core ethics, adhere to
  the highest professional standards, and bring an unwavering
  commitment to the well-being of their patients; and
         WHEREAS, The largest group of health professionals in the
  nation, nurses are essential to the quality of care delivered
  throughout the health care continuum; Texas is home to more than
  250,000 licensed nurses who are striving to meet the emerging
  health care needs of a growing and diverse population; and
         WHEREAS, Every day, the expertise, dedication, and hard work
  of nurses across the Lone Star State greatly benefit countless
  Texans, and Nurses Week provides a fitting occasion to recognize
  these outstanding men and women; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 6 through 12, 2011, as Nurses Week
  in Texas and extend deep appreciation to the state's nurses for the
  diligence and skill they bring to their challenging vocation.
