R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A long and accomplished career drew to a close in
  2010 when Bob Kitchens retired as head coach of The University of
  Texas at El Paso track team; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Plainview, Mr. Kitchens was a sprinter
  on the Texas Tech track team while a student, and he began his
  coaching career at West Texas A&M University in 1968; he moved to
  Mississippi State University in 1979, and he began overseeing the
  Miners track program in 1988; and
         WHEREAS, During his 42 years as a coach, he compiled a notable
  record of success; he worked with 26 national champion athletes,
  263 All-Americans, 18 conference titlists, 630 conference
  champions, and more than 30 individuals who competed in the
  Olympics; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Kitchens is widely respected by his peers and
  has received numerous accolades; he was named the Cross-Country
  Coach of the Year for the Missouri Valley Conference in 1977 as well
  as its Indoor Coach of the Year in 1979; he was the Western Athletic
  Conference Coach of the Year four times for the outdoor season and
  three for indoor, and he later earned that honor for both the indoor
  and outdoor seasons of Conference USA; in addition, he garnered
  several regional coaching honors from the U.S. Track and Field and
  Cross Country Coaches Association; and
         WHEREAS, The dedication, professionalism, and commitment to
  excellence demonstrated by Bob Kitchens greatly benefited his
  athletes and The University of Texas at El Paso, and he may indeed
  reflect with pride on his many achievements as he enjoys his
  well-deserved retirement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Bob Kitchens on his outstanding coaching
  career and his service to The University of Texas at El Paso track
  program and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Kitchens as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
