Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations was held on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Senator Eltife's Desk.

Senator Kevin Eltife, the acting chair, called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

Senator Eltife moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearings held on March 4, 2009 and March 9, 2009; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Watson moved that the committee vote to approve the nominations of the individuals nominated to the following entities: Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, University of Houston Board of Regents, and the Texas Veterans Commission.  At 11:02 a.m. by a vote of 5 ayes and 0 Nays (Senator Nelson submitted a voting form to be shown voting aye) the committee voted to recommend the nominees to the full Senate for confirmation.

 

Senator Nichols moved that the committee vote to approve the nominations of the individuals nominated to the following entities: Midwestern State University Board of Regents, Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents, Texas State University System Board of Regents, Texas Woman's University Board of Regents, University of North Texas System Board of Regents, Prepaid Higher Education Tuition Board, and Todd Barth of the School Land Board.  At 11:03 a.m. by a vote of 5 ayes and 0 Nays (Senator Nelson submitted a voting form to be shown voting aye) the committee voted to recommend the nominees to the full Senate for confirmation.

 

There being no further business, at 11:04 a.m. Senator Eltife moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
