AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to licensing and regulation of event coordinators for |
|
|
combative sports. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 2052.002, Occupations Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subdivision (11-a) to read as follows: |
|
|
(11-a) "Event coordinator" means a person who performs |
|
|
any function to arrange, conduct, or stage a combative sports event |
|
|
promoted by another person, other than a permanent full-time |
|
|
employee of the promoter of the event. The term does not include an |
|
|
employee of an event coordinator. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 2052.107, Occupations Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 2052.107. OTHER COMBATIVE SPORTS LICENSES. Unless a |
|
|
person holds a license or registration issued under this chapter, |
|
|
the person may not act as a combative sports: |
|
|
(1) professional contestant; |
|
|
(2) manager of a professional contestant; |
|
|
(3) referee; |
|
|
(4) judge; |
|
|
(5) second; |
|
|
(6) timekeeper; |
|
|
(7) matchmaker; [or] |
|
|
(8) ringside physician; or |
|
|
(9) event coordinator. |
|
|
SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2007, the Texas |
|
|
Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt the rules |
|
|
necessary to implement the changes in law made by this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 4. Notwithstanding Section 2052.107, Occupations |
|
|
Code, as added by this Act, a person is not required to hold an event |
|
|
coordinator license or registration to act as a combative sports |
|
|
event coordinator before January 1, 2008. |
|
|
SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
