The Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education will hold a hearing on
Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the Capitol Extension, Room
E1.016.

The Subcommittee will hear invited testimony on Interim Charge #5-
Study the relationship of College of Education coursework on teacher
effectiveness and student performance.  Examine the State's role in the
accountability of these teacher preparation programs in delivering the
most effective instruction strategies recommended or validated by
scientifically-based research, particularly in the area of reading.
Examine past and current studies linking teacher preparedness with student
performance and identify any barriers to conducting such research.  Make
recommendations for legislative changes to improve programs.
