Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on
Transportation and Homeland Security was held on Monday, May 23,
2005, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at
Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m. The
following business was transacted:
At 11:06 a.m. after a brief introduction of bills to be covered
the chair moved that the committee stand at ease until a quorum
could be established.
At 11:07 a.m. with a quorum present, the committee reconvened.
The chair laid out as pending business HB 649. Senator Shapleigh
sent up committee amendment 1 and moved adoption; without
objection, the amendment was adopted. Senator Shapleigh moved
that HB 649, as amended, be reported back to the Senate with the
recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion
carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not
voting, and 4 absent.
At 11:08 a.m. the clerk called the roll.
The chair laid out as pending business HB 1546. Senator
Shapleigh moved that HB 1546 be reported favorably to the Senate
with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The
motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present
not voting, and 3 absent.
The chair laid out as pending business HJR 54. Senator
Shapleigh moved that HJR 54 be reported favorably to the Senate
with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The
motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present
not voting, and 3 absent.
The chair laid out as pending business HJR 79. Senator Brimer
moved that HJR 79 be reported favorably to the Senate with the
recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion
carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 1 nay, 0 present not
voting, and 3 absent.
Senator Barrientos moved that all the bills passed by the
committee with the exception of HJR 79, be certified for the
local and uncontested calendar in the event that an emergency
local calendar is set; without objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 11:12 a.m. Senator Staples
moved that the committee be adjourned. Without objection, it was
so ordered.
