Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance was
held on Monday, May 1, 2006, in the Capitol Extension, Room
E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The chair laid out HB 1 and recognized the Senate sponsor,
Senator Shapiro, to explain the bill. Senator Shapiro sent up a
committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Shapiro to
explain the difference between the committee substitute and the
bill as filed.
Senator Zaffirini assumed the chair.
Senator Ogden resumed the chair.
Senator Ogden moved that the amendment deadline for HB 1 be set
at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2006; without objection, it was so
ordered.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list.
Senator Zaffirini assumed the chair.
Senator Ogden resumed the chair.

At 11:58 a.m. Senator Ogden moved that the Committee stand
recessed until 15 minutes after adjournment of the Senate;
without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Nelson reconvened the Committee at 7:09 p.m.
Testimony on HB 1 and the proposed committee substitute resumed.
Senator Ogden resumed the chair.
Testimony continued.
The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without
objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Ogden moved that HB 1 be left pending; without
objection, it was so ordered.
There was no action taken for the following bill(s): HB 5 and
SB 6.
There being no further business, at 8:30 p.m. Senator Ogden
moved that the Committee stand recessed until 1:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, May 2, 2006. Without objection, it was so ordered.
