         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Select Committee on  
         Education Reform and Public School Finance was held on Tuesday,  
         January 24, 2006, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at  
         Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 10:08 a.m.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         Senator Shapiro welcomed members of the Committee and made  
         opening remarks. 
          
         Members present made their opening remarks.  
          
         Senator West moved adoption of the committee rules, without  
         objection, the rules were adopted. 
          
         Witnesses testifying and registering are shown on the attached  
         list.   
          
         At 11:39 a.m. Senator West assumed the chair.   
          
         At 11:53 a.m. Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.   
           
         The chair moved that the invited testimony be closed; without  
         objection, it was so ordered.   
          
         There being no further business, at 1:56 p.m. Senator Shapiro  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
