R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving
memories, and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and
friends of Marion Jackson Maxwell of Tyler, who passed away on
February 7, 2005, at the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 23, 1924, in Troup, Jack Maxwell was a
lifelong resident of the Jacksonville-East Texas area; he owned
Maxwell Lumber Company for 30 years and was instrumental in the
development of the North Cherokee Water Supply Corporation and the
Cherokee County Airport; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Maxwell served with distinction in the 8th Air
Force during World War II; in his community, he shared his time and
talents as a member of the Jacksonville Lions Club and a cofounder
of the Jacksonville Rodeo Association; and
WHEREAS, A congregant of the Green Acres Baptist Church in
Tyler, Mr. Maxwell was an ordained Baptist minister who had
traveled on mission crusades to Korea, Alaska, Switzerland, and
Germany; he had also established mission churches on the Kobuc and
Shunack Rivers in Alaska; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman leaves a legacy of good
works and accomplishments, and he will be deeply missed by those who
were fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Marion "Jack" Maxwell
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
wife of 60 years, Leila "Tiny" Maxwell; to his son and
daughter-in-law, Marion Jackson "Jackie" Maxwell II and Sarah Ellen
Goodson Maxwell; to his twin daughters, Kathaleen McGhee and
Katherine Crouse and her husband, Richard; to his brother and
sister-in-law, Don Gray and Christine Maxwell; to his seven
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and to his other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Marion
Jackson Maxwell.
