MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION Subcommittee on Higher Education Monday, February 17, 2003 1:30 p.m. or upon adjournment Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education was held on Monday, February 17, 2003, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Royce West None Senator Kip Averitt Senator Kyle Janek Senator Todd Staples Senator Leticia Van de Putte ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 2:33 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Averitt moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on February 10, 2003; without objection, it was so ordered. At 2:34 p.m. Senator Averitt assumed the chair. The chair laid out SB 258 and recognized the author, Senator West, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator West moved that SB 258 be reported favorably to the full Committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent. At 2:36 p.m. Senator West resumed the chair. At 2:36 p.m. the chair moved the Committee stand at ease. At 2:42 p.m. the chair laid out SB 87 and recognized Senator Staples, in the absence of the author, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator West moved that SB 87 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered. There being no further business, at 3:03 p.m. Senator West moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.
