         Pursuant to a notice posted on March 16, 2004, the House  
         Committee on Elections met in a public hearing and was called to  
         order by the chair, Representative Denny, at 2:04 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:

                   (4). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Deshotel; Coleman; Uresti (3). 
               
         The committee discussed interim charge #3, relating to Texas  
         Ethics Commission implementation of House Bill 1606. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         The committee discussed interim charge #1, relating to the  
         Secretary of State's implementation of the Federal Help America  
         Vote Act (HAVA) and voting system use associated with HAVA and  
         election reform. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         At 6:29 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
