MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON REDISTRICTING Friday, May 4, 2001 1 hour after adjournment. Senate Chamber ***** Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rules 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Redistricting was held on Friday, May 4, 2001, in the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Jeff Wentworth Senator Robert Duncan Senator Mike Jackson Senator Rodney Ellis Senator Kenneth Armbrister Senator Judith Zaffirini Senator David Cain Senator Florence Shapiro ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 1:27 p.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Senator Duncan, Senator Ellis, and Senator Zaffirini were absent due to a concurrent meeting of the Conference Committee on Senate Bill 1. Senator Jackson moved to adopt the committee minutes from the previous hearings on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, and Thursday, May 3, 2001. There being no objection, the minutes were adopted. The chair indicated that two amendments to CSSB 499 were laid out and explained at the last committee meeting. Senator Cain reported that an additional amendment affecting Dallas County was in the process of being revised and would be sent up at the next meeting. Senator Cain moved that the committee recess until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2001. There being no objection, the motion passed. There being no further business, at 1:29 p.m., the chair announced the committee would stand in recess until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2001, when it would reconvene in the Betty King Committee Room.
