Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Business &
Commerce was held on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in the Capitol
Extension, Room E1.016, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 3:57 p.m. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The chair laid out SB228 and recognized the author, Senator
Shapleigh, to explain the bill. Senator Shapleigh sent up a
committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Shapleigh to
explain the difference between the committee substitute and the
bill as filed. Senator Shapleigh moved adoption of the
committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be
closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Shapleigh moved that SB228 do not pass but that CSSB228
be reported favorably to the full Committee on Business and
Commerce with the recommendation that it be reported favorably
to the Senate. The motion carried.
The chair laid out SB246 and recognized the author, Senator
Shapleigh, to explain the bill. Senator Shapleigh sent up a
committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Shapleigh to
explain the difference between the committee substitute and the
bill as filed. Senator Shapleigh moved adoption of the
committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.
Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on
the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be
closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Shapleigh moved that SB246 do not pass but that CSSB246
be reported favorably to the full Committee on Business and
Commerce with the recommendation that it be reported favorably
to the Senate. The motion carried.
The chair laid out SB749 and recognized the author, Senator
Shapleigh, to explain the bill. There were not any witnesses
testifying or registering on the bill. The chair moved that the
public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so
ordered.
Senator Shapleigh moved that SB749 be reported favorably to the
full Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation
that it be reported favorably to the Senate. The motion
carried.
The chair laid out SB905 and recognized the author, Senator
Shapleigh, to explain the bill. Three were not any witnesses
testifying or registering on the bill. The chair moved that the
public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so
ordered.
Senator Shapleigh moved that SB905 be reported favorably to the
full Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation
that it be reported favorably to the Senate. The motion carried.
There being no further business, at 4:21 a.m. Senator Shapleigh
moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of
the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
