         Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on May 10,  
         2001, the House Committee on Higher Education met in a formal  
         meeting and was called to order by the chair, Representative  
         Rangel, at 12:25 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Rangel; Brown, Fred; Farabee; Goolsby;  
                   Jones, Jesse; Uher; West, George "Buddy" (7). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Morrison; Reyna, Elvira (2). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         SB 1636 
          
         The chair laid out SB 1636 the companion to HB 2417. 
          
         (Representative Reyna, Elvira now present.) 
          
         Representative West, George "Buddy" moved that SB 1636, without  
         amendments, be reported favorably to the full house with the  
         recommendation that it do pass and be printed and be sent to the  
         Committee on Local and Consent Calendars. The motion prevailed  
         by the following record vote:  
          
         Ayes:               Representatives Rangel; Brown, Fred;  
                             Farabee; Goolsby; Jones, Jesse; Uher; West,  
                             George "Buddy" (7).  
           
         Nays:               None (0).  
           
         Present, Not Voting:     Representative Reyna, Elvira  (1).

         At 12:30 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
