Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Health
Services was held on Tuesday, January 11, 2000, in Dallas

The chair called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. There being
a quorum present, the following business was transacted.
The chair made opening remarks thanking the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School for hosting the hearing and
announced that the purpose of the hearing was to solicit and
consider public testimony on each of the interim charges
assigned to the committee by Lieutenant Governor Rick Perry.
The chair announced that the committee would first take up
discussion on charge #2 relating to pharmaceutical,
biotechnology, and genetic issues. The chair called witnesses
who had signed up to testify on the charge.

There being no further witnesses on any other the charges, the
chair moved to adopt the minutes from the hearing held on
November 4, 1999. Senator Moncrief motioned the adoption.
There being unanimous consent, the minutes were adopted.
The chair discussed the committee schedule; the Committee will
meet on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 10:00 a.m in Houston. The
Committe staff will coordinate with each office to provide the
location for the next hearing.
With no other business to come before the committee and upon
motion by Senator Moncrief, the chair recesses the committee by
unanimous consent at 3:56 p.m., subject to the call of the
chair.
