         Pursuant to a notice posted on July 17, 2000, the House  
         Committee on Public Education, Subcommittee on Alternative  
         Education, met in a public hearing and was called to order by  
         the chair, Representative Dutton, at 10:30 a.m. 
          
         Present:  Representatives Dutton; Olivo; Smith (3). 
          
         Absent:   None (0). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         The Public Education Committee, Subcommittee on Alternative  
         Education, met in a public hearing to discuss issues concerning  
         alternative education in Texas. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         At 2:34 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was recessed subject to the call of the chair.
