Pursuant to a notice posted on May 16, 2000, the House Committee
on Higher Education met in a public hearing and was called to
order by the acting chair, Representative Henry Cuellar, at
10:09 a.m.
The roll was answered as follows:
Present: Representatives Henry Cuellar; Fred Brown; Geanie
Morrison; Elvira Reyna (4).
Absent: Representatives Irma Rangel; David Farabee; Tony
Goolsby; Jesse Jones; Arlene Wohlgemuth (5).
Testimony was taken on Interim Charge Five: "Monitor the impact
of HB 588, 75th Legislature, in increasing the diversity of
students in college and the performance level of students
admitted under the top 10 percent plan. Evaluate ways to
increase the diversity of students in graduate-level and
professional-degree programs." (See attached witness list.)

At 11:58 a.m., on the motion of the acting chair and without
objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the
chair.
