         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate  
         Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim  
         Committee on Public Information was held on Thursday,  
         October 9, 1997 in the State Capitol Extension, Room  
         E1.012, Austin, Texas.

              The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:30  
         p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following  
         business was transacted.   
          
              Senator Carona made a motion to adopt the  
         committee rules as drafted.  Senator Whitmire  
         seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously,  
         and the rules were adopted. 
          
              The Committee heard invited testimony on the  
         judicial exception to the Public Information Act. 
          
              The Committee heard public testimony on the  
         judicial exception to the Public Information Act. 
          
              The Committee heard public testimony on SB 1069  
         (75th Legislative Session) and related matters. 
          
              The Committee heard public testimony on the  
         committee charges. 
          
              The Committee heard public testimony on HB 1718  
         (74th Legislative Session) and related matters. 
          
              There being no further business, at 5:10 p.m.  
         Senator Carona moved that the Committee stand  
         recessed subject to the call of the Chair.  Without  
  
         objection, it was so ordered.
