         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Tax Reform & 
         Public School Finance, Select was held on Wednesday, February 
         19, 1997 in the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas.

         The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:10 am.  There being 
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.  
         
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:  None
         
         Senator Bivins moved to adopt the committee rules.  The motion 
         carried with a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 
         4 absent.  
         
         The committee heard invited testimony on the issue of public 
         school finance.  Witnesses testifying
         and registering are shown on the attached list.
         
         The committee recessed for lunch at 11:15 am.
         
         The committee reconvened at 1:15 pm.

         There being no further business at 6:05 pm Senator Armbrister 
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of 
         Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
