Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Tuition
Exemptions was held on Monday, May 5, 1997 in the State
Capitol Building, Room 2E.20, at Austin, Texas.

Senator Wentworth, the Chair, called the meeting to order at
2:00 pm. The following business was transacted.
The following members arrived after the roll was called:
none.
The Chair laid out SB 1056 and recognized its author, Senator
Lucio, Jr., to explain the bill.
Robert R. Furgason, representing Texas A&M University -
Corpus Christi, testified on the bill.
Senator Wentworth announced that SB 1056 would be left
pending.
The Chair laid out SB 815 and recognized its author, Senator
Truan, to explain the bill.
Robert R. Furgason, representing Texas A&M University -
Corpus Christi, testified on the bill.
Senator Truan moved that SB 815 be reported favorably to the
full Committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be
printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, 0
present not voting, and 2 absent.
The Chair laid out SB 1056 and recognized Senator Truan for a
motion. Senator Truan sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved
adoption. Committee Amendment 1 was adopted without
objection.
Senator Moncrief sent up Committee Amendment 2 and moved
adoption. Committee Amendment 2 was adopted without
objection.
Senator Moncrief moved that SB 1056, as amended, be reported
back to the full Committee with the recommendation that it do
pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3
ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent.
There being no further business, at 2:30 pm Senator Moncrief
moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of
the Chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
