Pursuant to a notice posted on April 30, 1998, the House
Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues met in a public
hearing and was called to order by the Chair, Representative
Toby Goodman at 1:50 pm.
The roll was answered as follows:
Present: Representatives Goodman; McClendon; McReynolds;
Naishtat; Reyna, Arthur; Williams (6).
Absent: Representatives Staples; Jones, Jesse; Smith (3).
A quorum was present.
The Committee convened to hear invited testimony on Child
Protective Services' investigation procedures and policies,
and Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs. The Big
Brothers and Big Sisters organization also requested some time
to tell the committee about their success with certain
programs in preventing at-risk youth from becoming involved
with the Juvenile Justice System.

At 6:00 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,
the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
