                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On November 27, 1996, 43 Texans, most of whom are

 1-2     residents of the town of Roby, won $46.6 million in the Texas

 1-3     Lottery, the second-largest Texas Lotto cash prize ever claimed;

 1-4     and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The Roby Gang, as they became known, pooled their

 1-6     hopes and funds for a chance at the available jackpot, and their

 1-7     purchase of the winning ticket with the numbers 13, 20, 21, 24, 41

 1-8     and 45 has brought fame and fortune both to the winners themselves

 1-9     and to the West Texas community from which they hail; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Achieving nationwide celebrity status overnight, the

1-11     Roby Gang was featured on such well-known television programs as

1-12     "The Today Show," "48 Hours," "Good Morning America," and "Inside

1-13     Edition," and the story also received coverage in the New York

1-14     Times and USA Today; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The members of this illustrious group of Texas

1-16     citizens include Ralph Amador, Albert Barrera, Rex Beauchamp, Brad

1-17     Boyd, Deena Branson, Donald Campbell, Jimmy Carreon, James Carson,

1-18     John Davis, Peggy Dickson, Tammy Dickson, Jeronimo Gaona, Richard

1-19     Gaona, Lance Green, E. M. Guelker, Vance Lakey, Jack McClure, Ricky

1-20     Morton, Tammy Morton, J. T. Palmer, Shad Rasco, Derwayne Rasco,

1-21     Richard Spencer, Brad Stuart, Freddie Stuart, Chad Terry, Danny

1-22     Terry, Emma Faye Terry, Gene Terry, Jason Terry, Jeremy Terry,

1-23     JoAnn Terry, Juanita Terry, Michael Louis Terry, Teresa Terry,

1-24     Thurman Terry, Tony Terry, Vernon Terry, Michael Vernon Terry,

 2-1     Manuel Valdez, Buddy Williamson, Freddy Williamson, and Martha

 2-2     Williamson; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, In accomplishing this near-miraculous feat, the

 2-4     members of the Roby Gang have brought pride and financial stability

 2-5     to their community, and the inspirational achievement of these 43

 2-6     Texans is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition at this

 2-7     time; now, therefore, be it

 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-9     Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Roby Gang on

2-10     defying astronomical odds to win the Texas Lottery's second-largest

2-11     jackpot ever and extend to them sincere best wishes for a happy and

2-12     rewarding future; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for the Roby Gang as an expression of high regard by the

2-15     Texas House of Representatives.
