Legislative Session: 81(R)

Senate Bill 1681

Senate Author:  Hinojosa

Effective:  9-1-09

House Sponsor:  Gallego

Senate Bill 1681 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to prohibit a defendant from being convicted of an offense on the testimony of a person to whom the defendant made a statement against the defendant's interest during a time when the person was imprisoned or confined in the same correctional facility as the defendant unless the testimony is corroborated by other evidence tending to connect the defendant with the offense committed.  The bill establishes that corroboration that shows only that the offense was committed is not sufficient for these purposes.
