Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:04 AM. The following business was transacted:

 

At 9:05 AM Senator Watson assumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out SB 1895 and recognized the author, Senator Taylor, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Taylor sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Taylor to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Watson moved that SB 1895 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 9:20 AM Senator Taylor resumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out SB 608 and recognized the author, Senator Watson, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Watson sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Watson to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

Senator West was recognized to discuss an amendment to SB 608, sunset bill, that Senator Huffman intends to offer as a floor amendment to SB 608. 

 

Senator West moved that the committee amendment be withdrawn. There being no objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out SB 1659 and recognized the author, Senator Watson, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Watson sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Watson to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

Senator Hughes moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Due to the Senate policies regarding legislation with fiscal implications, Senator Hughes withdrew the motion to recommend SB 1256 to the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.
