R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Ekta Escovar received the 2018 Benjamin |
|
|
Berkeley Citizen of the Year Award from the Alpine Chamber of |
|
|
Commerce; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, the chamber presents this accolade to an |
|
|
individual who has made outstanding contributions to the community; |
|
|
it was named in tribute to the city's first mayor, a physician who |
|
|
also helped organize the area's first bank and the Alpine |
|
|
Commercial Club, the chamber's forerunner; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Escovar is currently Alpine's only |
|
|
pediatrician, and she serves as vice chief of the medical staff at |
|
|
Big Bend Regional Medical Center; in her work, she has treated many |
|
|
children injured on playground equipment at Kokernot Park, and she |
|
|
brought her concerns about safety before the city council; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Learning that the city budget lacked funds to make |
|
|
repairs to the equipment, Dr. Escovar established a nonprofit, Big |
|
|
Bend Parks and Recreation for Kids; she secured grants that enabled |
|
|
the organization to make significant improvements to city parks, |
|
|
including Baines Park as well as Kokernot Park; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ekta Escovar has made a positive impact in the |
|
|
community through her civic engagement and deep commitment to the |
|
|
well-being of area children, and she is richly deserving of this |
|
|
prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Ekta Escovar on her receipt of |
|
|
the 2018 Benjamin Berkeley Citizen of the Year Award from the Alpine |
|
|
Chamber of Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Escovar as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
