R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Students from Riverside High School in El Paso
  earned regional awards in the fields of environmental engineering
  and applied mathematics in April 2019; and
         WHEREAS, During the City of El Paso Environmental Services
  Department's annual Earth Day celebration, officials hosted the
  first-ever Environment Excellence Recognition Program awards
  ceremony; among the winners was Riverside High's solar technology
  program, which won the EERP award in the category of education;
  established in 2017, the program is the first of its kind in the
  nation to offer North American Board of Certified Energy
  Practitioners associate photovoltaic certification, which allows
  students to enter the workforce anywhere in North America in the
  solar energy industry upon graduating from high school; and
         WHEREAS, Earlier in the month, a group of Riverside students
  won first place at the Prudential Math Challenge, where high school
  teams from Brewster, Culberson, El Paso, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, and
  Presidio Counties competed to address a real-world issue using
  applied mathematics; during the competition, teams were
  sequestered for 12 hours and challenged to research and solve the
  problem and to then present their findings in a research paper; as a
  reward for winning the contest, the Riverside team took home a
  $3,000 prize from The Prudential Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, Through their hard work and dedication, these
  exceptional students have earned the respect and admiration of
  their classmates, teachers, and community, and they may indeed
  reflect with pride on their achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Riverside High
  School solar technology program and math team on earning regional
  awards in environmental engineering and applied mathematics and
  extend to all participants sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
