R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Gary Pitner of Amarillo retired from the Panhandle |
|
|
Regional Planning Commission in the fall of 2017, drawing to a close |
|
|
a distinguished career in public service that spanned 40 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Panhandle Regional Planning Commission is an |
|
|
association that assists local governments in planning and |
|
|
implementing programs of benefit to citizens of the region; |
|
|
Mr. Pitner began working for the commission in 1977 as a college |
|
|
intern while attending West Texas A&M University; he graduated with |
|
|
a degree in public administration the following year and went on to |
|
|
hold a number of positions on the staff before being named executive |
|
|
director in 1985; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Pitner has also served as an officer of the |
|
|
Texas Association of Regional Councils Board of Directors, as chair |
|
|
of the Texas Executive Director's Council, as president of the |
|
|
Texas Regional Planning Commission Employee Benefit Plan Agency, |
|
|
and as a member of the Panhandle Twenty/20 board; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This lifelong Texan has further contributed to the |
|
|
Amarillo community through his work as founding president of the |
|
|
Amarillo Local Government Corporation and through his leadership |
|
|
roles with the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, the Amarillo |
|
|
Historical Preservation Foundation, and the Amarillo Tomorrow Fund |
|
|
Board of Directors; he has also served on the West Texas A&M |
|
|
University College of Education and Social Sciences Advisory Board |
|
|
and the Northwest Texas Healthcare System Board of Governors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Pitner has received numerous |
|
|
honors, including the Al J. Notzon Award for Outstanding Regional |
|
|
Council Executive Director, the Downtown Amarillo Spearhead Award, |
|
|
and the Amarillo Globe-News Man of the Year Award; in all his |
|
|
endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Linda, and |
|
|
their son, Collin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A committed champion of the Panhandle and its |
|
|
residents, Gary Pitner may reflect with pride on all that he has |
|
|
accomplished in their behalf, and his contributions will benefit |
|
|
area Texans for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Gary Pitner on his retirement from |
|
|
the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Pitner as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
