Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations was held on Thursday, August 3, 2017, in the Betty King Committee Room at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

Vice-Chairman Watson was recognized to introduce Tom Smelker, who has been nominated by Comptroller Hegar to serve as the Administrator for the Texas Bullion Depository, to the committee.

 

Mr. Smelker made an opening statement. Questions and comments were offered by the following members: Vice-Chairman Watson, Senator Taylor, Senator Estes, and Chairman Birdwell.

 

Upon the completion of questions, no public testimony was offered.

 

Chairman Birdwell announced that all nominees would be left pending before the committee.

 

There being no further business, at 2:07 p.m., Chairman Birdwell moved that the committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair; without objection, it was so ordered.
