Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Violence in Schools & School Security, Select was held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:04 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

Senator Rodriguez was also present.

 

The following charge was discussed: Examine whether current protective order laws are sufficient or whether the merits of Extreme Risk Protective Orders, or “Red Flag” laws, should be considered for seeking a temporary removal of firearms from a person who poses an immediate danger to themselves or others, only after legal due process is provided with a burden of proof sufficient to protect Second Amendment rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

 

Invited testimony was taken.

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
