Pursuant to a notice posted on July 10, 2018, the House Committee on Business & Industry met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Oliveira, at 10:12 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Oliveira; Shine; Collier; Romero, Jr.; and Stickland.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

The Committee met jointly with the Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures to hear invited testimony on the following Interim Charge:

 

Evaluate the adequacy of the workforce currently available to the industries responsible for rebuilding the state’s key infrastructure as well as residential and commercial properties damaged by Hurricane Harvey. Specifically, examine the labor needs within the construction industry and skilled trades and determine if local or state licensing requirements and regulations are an unnecessary barrier to the ongoing success of post-Harvey recovery.
