Pursuant to a notice posted on March 23, 2018, the House Committee on Business & Industry met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Oliveira, at 1:42 p.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Oliveira; Shine; Collier; Romero, Jr.; and Workman.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

The Committee considered the following charge:

 

Charge 2: Review all existing laws concerning consumer rights and protections, including but not limited to statutes that address deceptive practices, landlord/tenant agreements, and homeowner/contractor disputes. Determine whether the provisions offer adequate guidance and protections in disaster and recovery situations. Specifically;

 

                                                                                I.            Landlord/Tenant agreement

                                                                              II.            Overview of Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA)

                                                                           III.            Texas Fair Housing Act

Testimony taken/registration recorded.  (See attached witness list.)

 

At 4:18 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
